Because these discs are self-sharpening, try using a pulling motion as you initially move across the surface rather than pressing in on the material right away.

And depending on the grit you use, you can maximize your cost savings simply because the piece’s outcome depends on the focus and time spent on the material. For example, if you use a 36-grit flap disc regularly for heavy stock removal, you could maximize time, labor and cost savings by switching to a 60-grit ceramic resin fiber disc combined with a rigid backing pad.
